SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Spring Seminar: Critique and Normativity
LOCATION:Norwegian School of Theology\, Religion and Society
DESCRIPTION:[NOTE: Due to the outbreak of the Corona-virus this seminar has been resche
duled to spring 2021]\n \nUnderstanding critique and normativities in empir
 ical research.\nTraditionally one separates between empirical/descriptive a
nd normative disciplines, and between for instance education, sociology, ps
ychology and religious studies on one hand and philosophy and theology on t
he other. This separation is problematic for a number of reasons. It seems
clear that descriptive disciplines have implicit and explicit normative dim
ensions, and that empirical research may voice critique. Furthermore, theol
ogy has developed in an empirical direction, and political moral philosophy
have empirical assumptions and implications.\nThis course discusses unders
tandings of critique and normativities in empirical research, involving a n
umber of different disciplines, like political science, education, sociolog
y, health sciences and philosophy. The lecturers offer practical examples o
f how normativities play out in research and reflections on how one can neg
otiate in normative fields, including normativities in policy and research
communities. The course also discusses what critique in empirical research
may mean today.\nThe full program for this seminar is here. (images/storie
