The RVS Fall course 2025 will be chaired by NTNU and co-chaired by University of Stavanger. Course campus will be at MF in Oslo.

The theme is Worldviews in research on religion, values and society. In recent years, “worldview” has been proposed as a comparative concept and a foundational analytical category in religious studies, with relevance for many other fields. In this year’s RVS fall course, we will discuss different approaches to the worldview concept and religious practices of “worldmaking” or “realmaking”:

  • We will explore how the concept of worldview can be operationalized both in contrast to and alongside the concept of “religion”.
  • We will consider how polarization between worldviews can be a source of divisions, but also a catalyst for creative and alternative worldbuilding.

We will approach these themes through introductions to central contributors to the field, and through presentations of current research projects.

Planning committe is led by Anja Kirsch, NTNU, with Ingrid Løland (UiS), Stian Sivertsen (PhD student NTNU) and Fredrik Saxegaard (RVS).

More information will follow, but please save the dates!
